General Information
About Tokyo
Tokyo is the largest industrial and cultural center in Japan, yet it is considered to be one of the safest cities in the world. The Imperial Palace, home of the emperor of Japan, is located in the middle of the city. Historical districts and exquisite gardens contrast with modern business and shopping districts. A rich cultural life also thrives, embracing a variety of traditional festivals.
Visit http://www.tcvb.or.jp/ for more information on Tokyo. Information on Japan in general can be found at the official homepage of the Japan National Tourist Organization http://www.jnto.go.jp/
Passport and Visa Requirements
Every foreign visitor entering Japan must have a valid passport. A visa is required for citizens of countries that do not have visa-exempt agreements with Japan. If you require a visa to enter Japan, please check with your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate to obtain the necessary documents. Please give yourself plenty of time to get the necessary paperwork completed in time for your departure.

Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website at http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html for more details. If you should require any assistance in preparing documents for visa application, please contact the Secretariat (e-mail: apafs2006_visa@ics-inc.co.jp).
Travel Insurance
The organizer cannot accept responsibility for accidents which might occur. Delegates are encouraged to obtain travel insurance (medical, personal accident and luggage) in their home country prior to departure.
Currency and Credit Cards
The local currency is Japanese Yen (JPY). Major credit cards are accepted at major hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. You can exchange currency at banks and other authorized money exchangers with a valid passport. Traveler's checks are accepted only at leading banks and major hotels in principal cities and the use of traveler's checks is not as popular in Japan as in some other countries.
Tipping
Tips are not necessary in Japan, even at hotels and restaurants.
Electrical Appliances
Japan operates on 100 volts for electrical appliances. The frequency is 50 Hz in eastern Japan, including Tokyo and 60 Hz in western Japan, including Kyoto. Leading hotels in major cities have two outlets of 100 and 22 volts, but their sockets usually only accept a two-leg plug.

Japan is 9 hours ahead of G.M.T.
CLIMATE
The temperature in Tokyo during the period of the congress ranges between 10-16 degrees Celsius.
The whether is mostly sunny.
